Search For City Ceo Delayed

APPOINTMENT of a new Wollongong City Council chief executive looks set to take a little longer after Deputy Mayor Kiril Jonovski called for a delay in the selection of a recruitment agency.

Councillor Jonovski said the agenda for the council's February 19 meeting, when the matter is scheduled to be discussed, was far too long to allow for proper consideration of the matter.

"I am calling for the decision to be deferred for one week and for an extraordinary council meeting to be held to enable us to finalise this important matter," he said.

The move has the backing of independent councillor Dave Martin, who said the matter was important and deserved the full consideration of the council.

"This is an important process and we need to take the appropriate due care and diligence - if that means it takes another week then so be it," he said.
