You Need To Get The Job Yourself
Thursday January 15, 2009
Unless you are asking them to find you contract work, a recruitment agency cannot really do much more than find you opportunities and put you in an interview. While some employers will simply accept an individual that a recruitment agency will find for them, most are likely to want to interview candidates themselves before accepting them. In such a case, the recruitment agency can present you as a very good fit for what a business wants, but you will need to win the business over with good interview technique. Your recruitment agency may even provide you with training in that area, but if they don't, there are a few key things to remember.
First, the better you know your background, the easier it will be to answer questions. Most interview questions will be about what you have achieved in your career, what qualifications you have and what you are capable of. The more intimately you know your career, the better you can respond to questions.
Secondly, be sure to keep calm. Get to the interview on time, wear comfortable clothing at least one step above what is worn at the workplace, and remember to think about questions before answering them. Nerves will often make people too jumpy at an interview. While some nervousness is understandable, being a nervous wreck can be off-putting for the interviewer.
Thirdly, while confidence is a must, do not cross the line into being cocky. You have to talk yourself up, but if you begin to insist that the previous businesses you worked for would never have been able to get along without you... Well, the obvious next question will be how on Earth they have managed to keep running now that you're gone.
